If you're like me, it can be frustrating to have a figure-eight knots shake the end of a genoa and disappear through Block! Use this cap, new stronger knot of worry free navigation in any time – day or night.
Most of us learned to drive a boat with knots of certain standards. The figure-eight knot has long reigned as one and the knot should be tied to the end of each sheet headsail to prevent it from slipping through the leaf blocks. But in windy conditions, the number eight can loosen and through a process called "reverse".
Make ten second "spill" test
You can get all the knots to sailors Spill – or undo itself – if you tug, shake, squeeze, or rather a shock. But some spill nodes much faster than others. As a skipper sailing, this handful of dangerous nodes could be disastrous in some situations. For example, a quick release knot tied in a row Location could shake wakes up after a bit, rising tides or storm surges reflex and draw the line.
Take the square knot, eg. How long do you think of this node famous water spill? You're in for a surprise. Make this simple and quick to respond to this issue:
* Take two pieces of line.
* The join with a square knot.
* Hold one of the pieces standing in each hand.
* Push away from the node and node.
* Count the number of times until the knot begins to unravel.
This proves that some nodes are more reliable than others. And it is with a stopper knot, used to keep a line – like a sheet of headsail – pass through a block or another piece of sailing equipment.
Three steps to a central node cap
1. Get the end of your Genoa or jib sheet with your nondominant hand. Hold it about 12 "from the end with the thumb and middle finger. Drape the 12" end sheet away from you.
2. Wrap the end twice around the palm to the fingertips. Take care not to overlap these wraps.
3. Pass The Bitter End during the two wraps (Back to the wrist), then screw it back through the envelope (to the fingertips). Pull it tight.
Add this cap sheet to your list of "must have" knots sailors today. Make it the norm of "end of line" stopper knot on your little boat Cruising for confident, worry-free navigation.
